Need help on The Great Persecution?

I need info about the Great Persecutions, delivered by Nero and stuff. Did the Christians use secret codes, secret symbols, hold secret meetings, what sort of suffering they were put through (were they tortured for information abut other Christians?) and stuff like that. Any help is much appreciated.
