How can I choose an atty. & insure she/he has actual experience in a court room situation?

I 'm not sure the attys. advertising on TV are all right (I mean, what atty has to ADVERTISE for business?!).We umed (I know, my bad) the atty we almost hired was going to fight considering we were in the right. Nope..he said the defendants (insurance co) ALWAYS settled and NEVER reinstated. When I ?d him re. his court expertise (and believe me I had to pin him down he was so evasive!) turns out he had never even been in a court room. We're talking a partner in a really fancy-shmansy office. ( 8 secretaries; 2 receptions;2 operators). Any insights?
