HOW TO GET YOUR CAR TOTALED? ?

Some lady hit my car on drivers door at 50 mph. I’m ok but my cars door is bent in, side air bag is inflated and front will is bend…. Long story short, the shop spoke with insurance and they decided to fix it but my wife hate that because she thinks that car has bad karma. So anything I could do to make them reconsider and total the car? Mechanic at the shop told my that its probably is going to by totaled when it was towed but now the fixing it, maybe because they have no other work in this slow economy?
